ENG: In anticipation of the forthcoming V&A exhibition Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion, on 24th March Fashion in Motion presented Inspired by Balenciaga. This showcase displayed a unique selection of outfits created by students of Central Saint Martins, in response to the archives of the Cristobal Balenciaga Museum in Getaria, Spain.
We went for the 5pm show on the day – stopped at Fernandez and Wells near South Kensington station for a bite before and was bumming around the museum while waiting for the start. Lots of people were gathering around the V&A’s unique Raphael Gallery, where the live catwalk experience was held.

The show started with a dramatic piece made from plastic and recycled materials by Alaqyane McDonald (No 1) – he used 4000 bin bags and 6000 pins in the process; then eventually the rest of the models joined in. I thought it was going to be a catwalk in motion, but instead the models were posing in line surrounded by the gallery’s fabulous paintings. The audience was walking around the catwalk – we were in each other’s way all the time as moving alongside the podium – flashlights everywhere.

It was quite a theatrical experience – I loved many of the garments, some with gorgeous detailing and story. My favourite was a blue set by Hansol Kim (No 4), loved the crimson one by Daisy Yu (No 2), the flow of Juan Lea Palomino’s fabric was stunning (No 7) and liked the playfulness of No 9 by Kun Qian.
Which one do you fancy the most?
Designers: 1 Alaqyane McDonald / 2 Daisy Yu / 3 Grace Jean-Louis Constantine / 4 Hansol Kim / 5 Jamie Challinor / 6 Jee Youn Lee / 7 Juan Lea Palomino / 8 Katie Paul / 9 Kun Qian / 10 Lisa Danbi Park / 11 Maria Da Camara Santos / 12 Rhianna Morton / 13 Summure Gordon / 14 Viktoria Zuziak / 15 Zoe Zoberski

HU: A Kozelgo Balenciaga kiallitas alkalmabol a londoni Victoria & Albert muzeum nemreg bemutatta a Fashion in Motion musorat, melyen az egyik legnevesebb europai divat egyetem (UAL – Central Saint Martin) diakjai mutattak be Balenciaga ihlette alkotasaikat.
Harom eloadast tartottak a napon, mi a delutan otosre mentunk. A show elott interjun voltam a Fulham Road-n (London egyik dizajn utcaja), majd a kedvenc South Kensington-i helyunkre ultunk be egy falatra (Fernandez & Wells).

Jartal mar a Victoria & Albert muzeumban?

Tetszik. Bár a modellek biztos furcsán érzik magukat. 🙂
Fantastic! I was so excited to see some of the exhibitions….I forgot to look at the dates and everything starts in May. Sigh~ Still was a lovely trip to London. Please, go to Balenciaga for me – ok? XO
I will, for sure! How was your trip? I’m sorry we couldn’t meet, and hope that next time we can make it happen 🙂
Lovely trip, great weather! XO
Wow! I love Balenciaga!! He had such good and refined taste and his clothes were constructoral works of art! I especially loved Cristobal’s opera coats!! He was a true couturier!
By the way, I have a fashion blog called Jessie’s Threads. I would love it if you could look at it for me and tell me what I am doing wrong? Give me a few pointers, too!! No one is reading it and I would really love to get my readers up. Like maybe at least 10 views per post for now?
You could follow me too, like my posts, view them and comment on them, as well as tell others to do the same. Thank you!!
