HOW TO AVOID FEELING BLUE IN WINTER?

ENG: When I am writing this post is a week before Christmas, and a week after my tonsillectomy, so my feelings are somewhat mixed. Did not have the chance to really enhance my festive spirit yet. I am at home in Slovakia, with my family, my husband will arrive soon from London, and this year I can spend the holidays with all my loved ones. I am lucky.

Then Christmas is gone, we go back to London, and there we are: 2-3 more month of miserable London weather in the big city, trying to hold it together for spring to come. But how is it possible to make through the winter darkness? What can we do to lift ourselves up a bit and keep ourselves going?

Here are my personal tips from experience (come a long a way, darlingheart to learn it, believe me):

  1. VITAMINS – These are essentials! The lack of sunshine has an extreme effect on our organism, so make sure you take plenty of vitamin D. Alternatively go have a tan, or just go out and walk a bit every day. Rain or snow sunshine still gets through the clouds to feed you with happiness.
  2. DIET – What you eat has an enormous influence on your mood and mental state. Sugar, alcohol, gluten are the worst you can indulge in, unless you enjoy having panick attacks, anxiety or depression. Just be a bit more careful, do not have to be drastic, ease into it, try it for couple of days, experiment on how avoiding them makes you feel. You´ll see, give it a go, and some time!
  3. EXERCISE – Take it from the laziest person on planet (aka me), that moving your ass is good (and not just while sexy-time). It makes a huge difference whether I sit on the sofa all weekend or go and have a walk at least (I do not dare to mention gym yet, as so far I have only been contributing to the gym by paying but not going). You can walk, dance, do yoga, pilates, have more sex, just keep on going.
  4. MEDITATION – You do not have to be Buddha to meditate. I´ve tried several forms, some I like, some are not for me (yet). What I use right now is an app, Headspace, created by a guy called Andy, and it is so great. The first 10 sessions are for free, these are guided meditations, and by the time you reach the end you will certainly want more. I pay around £7 a month, and have access to several targeted sessions. I love it! Another great source is Deepak Chopra´s 21 day meditation challenges, which take place every 3-4 months or so. You just sign up for free and immediately get access to the current one. Other than thet there are zillion videos, healing/meditation sessios on YouTube for free.
  5. HUG – It might sound weird, but it is important. Hugs can instantly boost oxytocin levels, which heal feelings of loneliness, isolation, and anger. Holding a hug for an extended time lifts one’s serotonin levels, elevating mood and creating happiness. Hugs strengthen the immune system. Hugs balance out the nervous system and boosts self-esteem. And if you do not have a person to hug, you can always hug a tree – a fantastic way of connecting with mother Nature.

Az unnepek utan viszont irany vissza Londonba, ahol 2-3 honap esos, fazos idoszak var rank a tavasz jotte elott. Hogyan lehet megorizni a jokedvet es lelkibeket a sotet teli szezonban? Mit tehetunk magunkert, azert, hogy mentalisan is egeszek maradjunk?

Osszeallitottam egy kisebb listat segitsegul az elmult evek tapasztalatai alapjan:

  1. VITAMIN – A sotet, kodos es rovid nappalok soran veszesen megcsappan a D vitamin szervezetunkben, melynek nagyon nagy hatasa van kozerzetunkre. Menj szolariumba, hasznalj bio-lampat, setalj, megha borongos is az ido, mert a napsugar megtalalja az utjat hozzad a felhokon keresztul is. Amit meg szeretettel ajanlok egy magyar vitaminkeszitmeny, neve Brandenburg Neuro. Ez kimondottan depresszioval, panik-szorongassal kuzdo egyeneknek, gyengebb idegrendszeru embereknek lett kifejlesztve. En mar jo ideje szedem es csak dicserni tudom.
  2. ETREND – nem fogyokurara gondolok, hanem a megfelelo tapanyagok bevitelere es a karokozo anyagok mellozesere. Ilyen a cukor, alkohol, gluten. Ezek aztan adnak az idegrendszernek rendesen, addig en sem hittem, mig nem probaltam ki. Varazslatos a kulonbseg! Amennyiben eleged van mar a buskomorsagbol, panikrohamokbol, szorongasbol, probald meg elhagyni ezeket a mergeket. Meg ha nem is orokre, vagy teljesen, legalabb adj egy eselyt magadnak, hogy erezhesd a pozitiv kulonbseget. Par nap, par het, meglatod mennyivel jobban erzed majd magad.
  3. MOZGAS – fogadd meg tolem, a vilag egyik leglustabb emberetol a tanacsot, es kelj fel a kanaperol. Eleg egy seta a haz korul, egy kis tanci-tanci fozes kozben, extra szex ahelyett, hogy egesz hetvegen a TV elott tespedjunk (tapasztalat, holgyeim es uraim). Az edzotermet is meg lehet latogatni, en is tervezem, mert iden egyelore meg csak a berletet fizettem latogatas nelkul. Lehet otthon jogazni is, pilates is nagyszeru, YouTube erre is tokeletes eszkoz.
  4. MEDITACIO – nem kell Buddhanak lenni ahhoz, hogy az ember meditaljon. Szamos formajat kiprobaltam mar, valamelyiket szeretem, jopar nem nekem valo (meg), az a jo benne, hogy mindenki megtalalhatja a szamara megfelelot. Naponta legalabb 5 percre csukd be a szemed, csendesedj el es figyeld a legzesed. Figyelj magadra, befele, a benso hangodra. Csodakat tesz!
  5. OLELES – Napi 8 oleles az a mennyiseg, ami egy egeszseges lethez szukseges. Az oleles oxitocint es szerotonint szabadit fel a testben (mindketto felelos a boldogsag erzetert), erositi az immunrendszert es noveli az onbizalmat. Ha epp nincs kit megolelned menj ki egy parkba, erdobe es olelj fakat – nagyszeru modja, hogy kapcsolatba lepj a teremto erovel, a termeszettel.
