Today’s contributor to the Fab Woman Project is Laura from Seattle, who believes that fashion should be used as a tool to make women feel confident and empowered. Her blog, the Frivolous Fringe is a platform for her creativity and a reflection of her ever evolving style. It is also a must-visit for affordable fashion and outfit ideas. If you haven’t yet visited her site it is now the time – it is something about her that just cheers you up.
- Describe yourself with 5 words…
…creative, kind, genuine, intelligent, adventurous
- Where does the name of the blog come from?
I’ve always loved fashion but never liked the way people turn it into something so serious with a bunch of rules… Fashion shouldn’t have rules because it’s all about expression! When I chose the name “Frivolous Fringe”- Frivolous meaning “not having any serious purpose” and fringe meaning “something ornamental and unconventional”- basically I wanted to show that my blog is a fun and original fashion outlet.
- How is your blog special and different from other blogs?
My blog is special/ different from other blogs because of the way I integrate high fashion trends with realistic-affordable- everyday apparel. I’m not trying to be something I’m not. I’m a twenty something still trying to figure life out and part of that is learning how to live life on a budget! It’s also important to me to interact with everyone who visits my blog and let them know how much I appreciate them taking time out of their day to see what I’m working on.
- Apart from blogging, what do you do?
I’m the manager at a restaurant, and I’m also in charge of their dress code, VIP guests, and human resources. I’m an artist- I do mostly acrylic paintings and you can check out my work at www.lauraottomann.wordpress.com. I’m also a model and I’m represented by an agency in Seattle.
- In 5 years…
…I’ve learned that life never goes as planned… so I couldn’t even begin to guess where I’ll be in five years! ;] BUT I would like to have my own growing business and get the opportunity to help others, travel, and make connections around the world.
- What are you proud of?
I’m proud of my self respect and integrity.
- What are you the best at?
I’m best at creative things. Art, style, cooking, etc.
- Who would you like to spend a day with?
I’d like to spend a day with the cast of The Lord of the Rings. I’m a total LOTR nerd!
- When are you the happiest?
I’m the happiest when I’m on vacation! But I can’t always afford a vacation… Haha my other happy place is when I wake up, get a good morning from my wonderful boyfriend, make a fresh pot of coffee, and decide what I’m going to post on my blog that day.
- What is the best thing about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is that it’s the ultimate creative outlet. Also the amazing connections you get to make with other people who are passionate about fashion.
- What makes a real woman?
A real woman is someone who isn’t afraid to be herself. She’s confident in her own skin and doesn’t feel the need to conform to anyone else’s ideals. She has goals, values, and a kickass confidence! The world is her oyster.
- Who would you like to co-work with?
I would like to work with Aimee Song. She’s an insanely talented woman and fashion blogger!
- Where is your favorite place?
You know that saying, “home is where your mom is”…? Well my favorite place is at my mom’s house in Palm Springs. My mom is my best friend and living away from her can be tough!
love her style! so fab!
