FASHION STORY: 1940 – 1950

Dear Fashionistas,

This story is about Vichy pushing a robust model of woman, who is more consistent with the regime of WW2, when the only way for extravagancy was to wear a hat. It is about Pauline Adam, Simone Naudet, Rose Valois and Le Monnier, who all kept fashion alive in those hard times, when fabrics were limited and only 3 buttons/clothes were allowed. Paris lost its legacy being the capital of fashion, giving a chance to the USA to rise and shine. Bonnie Cashin transformed boots into a major fashion accessory, while ´ready to wear´clothes pushed haute couture off the stage for a moment. Finally, it was also the time, when Christian Dior introduced ´The New Look´ and reestablished Paris as fashion centre.

Below is a selection of images that illustrates both the decade and its interpretation to the modern world of fashion. (Source: Pinterest)
