Didi is a textile designer from Norway, who after studying at Central St Martin’s did an internship with Alexander McQueen. I got to her website while searching for some inspiration and fell immediately in love with the digital prints showcased in her portfolio. They have a mysterious, somewhat dark vibe; many of them are wonderfully complex and abstract collages. Didi also maintains her fashion link, having cooperated with fashion designer Deborah Henning. Her prints will definitely take you beyond reality, so welcome in her world…
I love being asked this question.. I think on top of my list would be ambitious. I am also creative, passionate, spontaneous and I can be quite random I guess (but in a good way)
If you were a colour…
I would probably be electric blue because I love the vibrancy and energy of the colour. Its energetic but also calm.
In 5 years you will…
I will have experienced my company become very successful. I will be very rich, have a beautiful house and still be one of those few lucky ones that are able to make a living out of what I love to do.
I am a full time Creative Director for a new fashion company called ArTeeCollage and a high-end gift company called Art Morphology where we designs gifts for museums around the world. I also do commissioned and freelance graphic design work where I combine painting, photography and graphics into art pieces for canvases, fashion and interior textiles and I also design artwork for flyers for different music events.
If you could choose anybody, who would you spend a day with?
I would spend a day with all my friends – All of them together if I could- somewhere hot and fun, with great music, sun and lots of cider!!!
What’s your pet/ would be?
Always wanted a pet penguin – would love to see peoples’ reactions of walking a penguin down the high street. I would make him wear a dickie bow and call him Charles..-But I guess it would be kinda cruel so I would happily set for a miniature giraffe instead (ca 1 meter high). Not sure what I would call him though.
Such a cliche but probably everything. I get a lot of ideas and imagery when in my sleep and I normally have quite vivid dreams. I don’t get a lot of inspiration from other artists however and I think it might be that many artists subconsciously have a fear of copying someone else. I do find inspiration in beautiful cinematography though and I can get quite obsessed by a composition or shape of an object and it will burn to my memory. I like unexpected beauty.
What’s next for you?
Just keep going and push my companies further. Unfortunately as a sole artists it is a different matter of success but I do have a dream of putting on a wonderfully weird exhibition which would cause a lot of controversy I think.. I hope one day I will be able to get the time and funding to do it!
What would you never do?
Pretend to be someone I’m not.
Do you have a motto?
Never doubt yourself – Believe you can and you will!!! I am truly amazed by how powerful the mind is and how much you can achieve by simply changing your mindset and making yourself aware.
