She is one of the most energetic people I’ve ever met: full of ideas, always has a smile to share and definitely lifts your day up. Melanie Nelson is an Interior Designer with almost 30 years of experience, who restlessly searches ways of projecting various inspirations into a solid form ‘creating furniture and objects to be valued over time.’

- WHAT DO YOU DO?
I’m moving towards developing furniture as well as interiors. I am doing mid range products that are both useful in homes and experimental and also creating a collector range known as AND Furniture.
- IN 5 YEARS YOU WILL…
…be building my own house – or maybe 10 or 20…
- WHO WOULD YOU SPEND A DAY WITH?
At the moment it would be Noel Fielding – it would be surreal! (Laughs) It would have to be in his studio, but I could only manage just a few hours. For me he is what arts should be about. I think he is hilarious, but most people wouldn’t like him. My hero in the design world is Paul Smith, though.
- WHAT’S YOUR PET?
My dog, Sally.
- WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
(Sights) Everything! Anything!
- WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?
Launching AND Furniture Asia in Hong Kong 15th March. I hope it will be successful, so I can go on and design the next collection.

- WHAT WOULD YOU NEVER DO?
I won’t answer this question, because as soon as I say what I wouldn’t do I would probably do it. (Laughs)
- WHAT’S THE QUESTION THAT HASN’T BEEN ANSWERED FOR YOU YET?
Apart from the meaning of life… When is everybody going to get it?
- YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IS…
I love London now, not always, but at the moment. Love the Highlands in Scotland, and I love the Sinai Desert.
- DO YOU HAVE A MOTTO?
There are no rules.
